Ok so first of all, Casey proposed to her under the guise he was leaving the Army. That was the deal. He’d given her an ultimatum. Marry me or I go back to the Army as a General. So why the hell is she considering giving up her life in Boston? Also he’s worked with the Army in Boston before. Wouldn’t it be easier if he moved there instead? But that doesn’t matter when he freaking said he would leave for her anyway.
Second of all, if Jane is having doubts that they’ll even work as a couple why is she even considering marrying him in the first place? How can she call him the love of her life and then later say “what if we don’t work out as a couple?” those are things you know in order to consider that person the love of your life. You know how you find those things out? You date. You go on real dates not picnics in the park or meeting at the Robber every once in a while when he comes back. You go through adversity together (other than long distance). You live together for a year or two instead of him crashing at your place when he’s on leave. You commit to a relationship like a normal fucking couple not have feelings for an old partner or sleep with a guy that helped you solve a case once.
Third of all, Casey has no familial ties to the Army. His family isn’t in Afghanistan. Sure maybe some of his friends are but Jane’s life is in Boston. How dare he have her even consider giving up everything she’s ever known and worked hard for just to sit around on a dangerous Army base where she’s forced to skype with her mom every once in a while and miss witnessing her nephew grow up? How dare he try to take her away from the people that love her?
Fourth, and final, of all; isn’t it sad that Maura is the only person Jane went to for advice? Not her mother, not her brothers, hell she didn’t even go to Frost or Korsak. She went to Maura. She went to the one person that wouldn’t be able to survive without her and Maura told her that she should follow her own path, not Casey’s. Not because Maura’s going to miss Jane but because she’s being rational and she knows that the healthiest choice for Jane is to follow her heart not someone else’s. Even if it breaks her heart.
But god, this is so sad. How many times in her career do you think Maura has encountered this?
Just being ignored - tucked away by herself with a glass of wine while she feels eyes moving over her and judging her.
And Frost is right there - right there.. and the feeling must be so familiar, because everyone leaves - everyone becomes a distance. Meters and miles. Just forgotten. She has grown so accustomed to it that is just something she naturally has learned to accept.
And you can tell she is lost in her thoughts - that she is struggling.
That not only does she love Jane - not only will she never have Jane, but that the one consistent person in her life - the person changed her, pulled her out of her shell, made her part of her family - is going to leave.
And maybe it won’t be in the literal sense - maybe Jane won’t become some Army wife on a base across the country or on the other side of the world.
But Jane is leaving - she is losing her to someone, and that is far worse than losing her to a place - because Jane will be right beside her and despite that, Maura knows she will still be alone.
fuck it fuck fuck!!!
how could u do this to Maura!!!
